Spring is here, and that means it’s finally time to spend more time outside. Whether you’ve been planning on cultivating a garden that will bloom into brilliant color around the edges of your custom home, or you’d just like to enjoy the breeze on a hammock, you can do both of those things this season. Here are some other outdoor living spaces that you can consider adding to your custom home.

A Patio

Patios can make a huge difference, especially if you want to sell your previous home before moving into a newly-built one that was designed just for you. However, let’s say that you added a patio to your custom home during the initial design phase. It’s time to upgrade it a little bit. To that end, be sure to add some extra lighting, even though the days are much longer now. Then add more furniture, especially if your patio seems bare. The problem is that you’ll probably be tempted to make your patio as large as possible.

An Outdoor Kitchen

That isn’t always such a good call, though. That’s because you could think about adding an outdoor kitchen, once you have the patio built. If you’re planning to remodel or renovate the indoor kitchen of your custom home, then having an outdoor kitchen is a smart idea. Be sure to get enough counter space so you’ll have plenty of prep space. Nothing is more frustrating when you’re trying to cook than having nowhere to chop vegetables or mix other ingredients. You could also make the grill the centerpiece, but don’t think you need to go overboard and install a wood-fired pizza oven.

Swimming Pool

Once you have a patio or a deck, you can install a firepit. But why not think about how the juxtaposition of fire and water can make your home the coolest place in the neighborhood? Even if you were reluctant to get a swimming pool before, it’s not too late to have one installed. Just be sure to have some underwater lighting added to it for an aesthetic boost. That way, nighttime swimming becomes even more fun, not to mention safer. However, once your pool is ready, you’ll need to take care of it. All cracks and other damages need to be addressed as soon as possible.
