Go for Your Favorite First
When choosing tile, you should start with that one that you just can’t live without. You’re going to see hundreds of options. Pull the one that catches your eye the most and use that as a starting point for choosing the rest of the tile for the room.
Change it Up, But Not Too Much
Once you’ve chosen that one tile that you have to have in your new bathrooms, you can move on to choosing the others. Many homeowners like to use different tiles for different parts of their room, but try not to choose more than three different types. One for the floor, one for the walls and the tub and/or shower, and one for accents usually does the trick.
Easy to Maintain
Consider who is going to be cleaning the tile. If you’re designing a bathroom for your kids, you will want to choose something that is easy to clean. If you have a cleaning service that comes to help you out, make sure they know if your new tile has any special care instructions.
Have Some Fun
Choose one area, whether it’s big or small, and make it an eye-catcher. Whether it’s a12” by 12” small mosaic area or an entire wall of colored tiles in an otherwise white bathroom, choose one area that you want to make pop. Your eye-catcher area is an excellent way to show off your style and personality. While your new custom bathroom needs to be a functional space, there’s no reason you can’t have some fun with it too!
