While we are sure you are ready to get settled in today, there are a few things you should take care of before you pack up the UHAUL and head down the road! Here are five simple tips to help you get settled in your new custom home.
Tell Your Utility Providers
Your new home will need gas, electricity, internet, telephone service, cable, water, and any other utilities that you want to utilize. You should take the time to get everything set up in advance so that you don’t have any headaches on moving day. Your custom home builder can also provide you with a comprehensive list of things that you might want to turn on and how to contact each service provider.
Change Your Address
You are required to update your address by law with numerous places, including the DMV and your bank. You should take a moment to update your mailing address and also request mail forwarding for your name at your previous address. Do you do any online shopping? Now is also the perfect time to change your Amazon address!
Purchase a Stud Sensor
The last thing that you want to do when you are decorating your new custom home is damage it. If you want to hang pictures and artwork on the walls, you should always use a stud sensor so that you don’t accidentally damage any ductwork, cables, or studs hidden in the walls. When hanging things, don’t go deeper than 1 ¼ inches into the wall.
Read Your Notes
Your custom home builder will provide you with a great deal of useful information about your new home. Read it! You should always know the finer points of what is inside of your home so that you don’t accidentally damage your countertops by using the wrong cleaner or misuse a home feature.
