3 Safety Items You Need to Have in Your Custom Home

Along with a working smoke alarm, you should also have a reliable carbon monoxide detector in your custom home.

Now that you’re all moved into your custom home, you want to be sure you can keep yourself and your family safe. So once everyone is home for the holidays, what can you do next? Here are five common safety items that are absolute must-haves for your brand new custom home.

Smoke Alarms

Along with a working smoke alarm, you should also have a reliable carbon monoxide detector. You never know when a fire will break out in your home over the holidays, and if carbon monoxide starts to accumulate, you might not know it until it’s too late. Double check that you have both of these detectors, and make sure they are equipped with functional batteries, so you can sleep easy after a long and hectic day spent with your family, pets, and relatives.

A Fire Extinguisher

Next to a smoke alarm, a fire extinguisher is one of the most valuable safety devices you can keep in your home. Even the best custom homes aren’t fireproof. Water might not be able to stop a fire quickly enough, especially if it happens in the kitchen because of an accident with cooking grease. Keep one extinguisher in your kitchen, another in your laundry room, and one for any other floors in your home.

Emergency Kits

An emergency kit is useful to have for every home, not just new ones. What should you keep in your emergency kit, also known as a first aid kit? Well, here are a few ideas:

  • Band-aids
  • Sterilized gauze
  • Sterile gloves
  • Tweezers
  • Medicine

Make sure you keep your kit up to date, replenishing anything that has been depleted or has expired since the last time you opened the kit.
