Keep Your Custom Home Cool this Summer

Keep Your Custom Home Cool this Summer

Follow this guide for keeping your custom home cool this summer.

As soon as the heat of summer starts to make its way into our homes, we often rush to turn on the air conditioner. However, there are some cooling alternatives that will help you keep a cool head while saving you money. Follow this guide for keeping your custom home cool this summer.

Use a Dehumidifier

Pull some of the heat and moisture out of the air with a dehumidifier. In humid regions of the country, your sweat doesn’t evaporate like it does in regions that have dry heat. A dehumidifier will help keep you cool at home by taking the humidity out of the air.

Unplug

Remember to keep devices and appliances unplugged when you aren’t using them. Electricity generates heat as well as power. These could be sources of heat all around your home and you don’t even realize. Unplugging these items could lead to an overall cooler atmosphere.

Switch to High Efficiency

High efficiency lighting creates light much better than other options. Non-efficient bulbs produce just as much heat as they do light and have been known to be responsible for up to an 11-degree difference in room temperature. Switching takes away the heat but leaves the light.

Cook Outdoors

Take advantage of the warm weather and do most of your cooking outdoors on your grill or in your outdoor kitchen. Using your oven and stovetop will generate heat that will travel throughout the entire first floor of your home. Cooking outdoor keeps the heat outside and helps maintain the coolness inside your home. If you must use your oven, wait until after 4 p.m. when the heat from the sun is less intense.

Use Ceiling Fans

Did you know that there is a better way to use your ceiling fans in the summer? A switch that’s usually located near the base of your fan is responsible for its direction. Change your ceiling fan to a counter-clockwise rotation to help force air down and help you feel cooler.
