How to Childproof Your Custom Home

How to Childproof Your Custom Home

Congratulations on your brand new custom home! Whether you already have little ones, or you’re planning on your family growing, you will need to childproof it.

Congratulations on your brand new custom home! Whether you already have little ones, or you’re planning on your family growing, you will need to childproof it. If you’re not sure how to do this for your home, just follow these tips!

Create Some Ground Rules

Setting some rules for your children is important, especially right after moving into a new home. Adjusting to your custom home will take some time, and you want to be sure your kids are safe when they chase the family pet around the house. Tell them that there are some rooms they can’t go play in, which is what they’re going to want to do. Keep an eye on them, and if you find them in a room they shouldn’t be, don’t be angry. Just tell why they shouldn’t be in there.

Don’t Use Glass

Along those same lines, don’t use glass in any of your furniture. That glass coffee table may make an elegant statement and impress your neighbors, but that table could also be fragile. The tables can break even on accident. Also, don’t leave glass decorations in easy reach of your kids. They won’t understand how glass can break if they’re not careful around it. Until they get older, it’s for the best to consider other materials for furnishing your custom home and making it look better.

Put Valuables Away

You should also put your valuables away for the time being.  Your kids will want to find new toys to play with, even if they’re not actual toys. You don’t want your kids getting hurt without your knowledge, so keeping them safe also keeps you safer, too. So once you’ve put your valuables away, spend some time with your children, and help them as they learn how to climb the stairs for the first time.
