5 Tips for Moving into Your Custom Home

5 Tips for Moving into Your Custom Home

Moving into your new custom home is exciting!

Once your custom home is fully built, you will be able to move into it. In some cases, you may choose a new home that is already ready for another family to move in, but most of the time you will want the house of your dreams to be built from the ground up.

Collect All of the Paperwork

In all the chaos of moving, it’s easy to lose important paperwork. That’s why before you start packing up you need to gather all of the important documents relevant to your move. Put them together in a folder or binder, something that you won’t lose. Make copies of the papers proving you have closed on the house. These copies you can keep with you, but the originals should go into a safe deposit box at your local bank for safekeeping.

Switch Billing and Contact Info

The next step is to update your billing and contact information. This way, you won’t miss out on important bills or notices that you would have received at your old address. Plus, if anyone needs to reach you, you should do this too. Your utilities, such as water, power, and Internet, should be transferred to your new custom home as well.

Get Ready to Move

Once that’s done, it’s time to get down to business. Moving gets even more complicated when you have to work full-time or you have family obligations or emergencies that come have up unexpectedly. Take pictures and measure the doorways and windows. Make sure you set a schedule for the day you move and don’t panic about not having any furniture when you first move in.

Tour the House and Neighborhood

Our last piece of advice is to take it slow as you settle into your new custom home. Take a tour around the house and get to know where everything is – such as the fire extinguishers and the emergency shutoff valves for water and power. Then get to know your neighbors and find the best places to get groceries or go out to eat – after all your hard work, it’s time to relax!
