4 Ways to Increase Storage in Your Custom Home

Once you have started planning the design of your custom home, you might be concerned about how much space you have. After all, it’s one thing to look at a floor plan and see a lot of space, only to run out once you’ve begun furnishing your home. Here are some useful ways to increase storage in your custom home.

Include an Attic

Although it’s possible to dedicate several rooms in the basement to storage, you might not want to do that. Having a finished basement can be a point of pride, especially when you’re throwing a party for Halloween or Thanksgiving. Instead, think about including an attic in your custom home’s design. At the same time, though, make sure that the attic has enough insulation to protect it from wind and rain. You’ll also need to organize it and clean it every so often so that you don’t dread going inside.

Expand the Garage

Your garage is also a useful way to expand your custom home. Try making it larger to accommodate two or three cars. You can keep tools and other supplies for maintaining your home without sacrificing storage space inside your home.

Add Bigger Closets

Sometimes, you wish you had bigger closets. Seasonal storage doesn’t always need to be taken up by your closet. That’s why your custom home features attics and garages. But you can also set up a closet for towels and other linens, a walk-in pantry, and closets in guest rooms too.

Don’t Waste Space

You also need to be mindful of how much space you’re using. Use your space wisely – if you don’t have a mudroom with the laundry machines, then that’s something to include in your floor plan.
